Welcome to Alistair Redfern Psychology!
My aim is to provide a calm, structured space where people feel understood and can work towards meaningful, sustainable change. I have a particular interest in supporting men, young adults, and individuals navigating complex trauma or high-risk periods in their life: populations who often find it harder to access support that feels genuinely suited to them.
I am a registered psychologist working with adults experiencing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, low mood, trauma-related difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and stress associated with life transitions. My professional background includes work across private practice, public mental health, and correctional environments, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, trauma histories, and elevated risk. This experience has shaped a careful, structured, and trauma-aware approach to therapeutic work, with an emphasis on safety, ethical practice, and clear boundaries.
I bring over five years of experience in mental health and disability support, including roles as an NDIS support worker, team leader, and coordinator. I have been registered as a psychologist for 18 months, during which I have worked across community and forensic mental health settings. I have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds and place strong importance on tailoring therapy to each person’s unique circumstances, values, and goals.
My work is grounded in evidence-based practice, and I primarily draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed methods including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused CBT. My approach is structured rather than loosely open-ended, but flexible in practice: moving between practical, skills-based work and slower, more experiential processing depending on what a session calls for.
I am committed to ongoing professional development, reflective practice, and regular supervision to ensure the provision of high-quality, ethical psychological care.
